Marvel Legend Chris Claremont Says Another Fan-Favorite X-Man Is Returning For ‘Doomsday’

On March 26, 2025, the world’s eyes were glued to Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated livestream, which slowly unveiled the cast of Avengers: Doomsday.

In the weeks leading up to the event, speculation ran wild as fans tried to guess which heroes would assemble for the multiversal adventure.

While Kevin Feige had already confirmed that Captain America, the Fantastic Four, and the Thunderbolts would appear, the rest of the lineup remained tightly under wraps.

Enter the X-Men

Over the course of a six-and-a-half-hour reveal, Marvel confirmed that several familiar faces, including Ant-Man, Black Panther, Thor, Loki, Shang-Chi, and Namor, would be returning. However, the biggest shock came with the announcement that the Fox-era X-Men will officially make their MCU debut in Doomsday.

Among the returning mutants are Beast (Kelsey Grammer), Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming), Mystique (Rebecca Romijn), and Cyclops (James Marsden).

While that lineup is undeniably impressive, there are also some glaring omissions.

What About Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey?

Among the missing X-Men was Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey. As a central character in the original Fox X-Men trilogy, it was strange to learn that Jansen would not be suiting up alongside her costars.

Things got even stranger when Janssen asserted that Marvel “never, ever” asked her to return for Doomsday.

Now, however, a legendary Marvel writer is giving fans new hope.

Chris Claremont Provides a Surprising Update

During a recent interview on the Power of X podcast, Chris Claremont seemingly confirmed that Jean Grey will return in Avengers: Doomsday.

“The thing I find most wonderful about it is they’re bringing back, the original cast, including Famke,” he said.

While Marvel has yet to officially announce anything regarding Janssen’s return, Claremont sounded fairly certain.

Previously, the Marvel legend let slip that Chris Evans was returning for Doomsday.

We will have to wait and see if he is right again.
