Next year, the Marvel multiverse will come together for the events of Avengers: Doomsday, and the stakes could not be higher.

After the disappointing box office results of Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Marvel desperately needs Doomsday to deliver.

In his moment of desperation, Kevin Feige has called all hands on deck. Doomsday will not only see Marvel’s biggest stars suit up again, but it will also feature the return of the Fox X-Men, the Russo Brothers, and Robert Downey Jr., who is tasked with bringing Doctor Doom to life.

Needless to say, expectations are high.

Marvel’s Stars Have Lauded the Film

While the plot of Avengers: Doomsday is a closely guarded secret, the MCU’s biggest stars have been effusive in their praise of the film.

Previously, Anthony Mackie, Alan Cumming, among others, lauded the film.

Now, Simu Liu has weighed in.

A “Love Letter” to the Genre

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Simu Kiu was asked about his involvement in Avengers: Doomsday.

“I mean, there are just so many actors in it, and getting to work with those people as peers is really incredible because I grew up watching so many of them,” he said.

When asked about the film itself, Liu was loath to reveal anything.

He did, however, describe Doomsday as a “love letter” to superhero movies and their fans.

“It feels, in a lot of ways, like a love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies. And I think there’s something really fun about that,” he said.

“[Doomsday] is for all the misfits and the weirdos and the underdogs that grew up reading comic books and feeling like there was hope for them somehow – that it didn’t matter if they didn’t fit in – I think there’s just always a special place in my heart for that entire genre.”

The Anticipation Is Building

While it remains to be seen what Marvel has in store for Avengers: Doomsday, Liu’s comments should give fans plenty to be excited about.

I, for one, can’t wait!
