When the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) concludes its Multiverse Saga with the events of Avengers: Secret Wars, Kevin Feige and his team will roll out the Mutant Saga.
To that end, the next chapter in the MCU will largely focus on the arrival of the X-Men, who have been teased for years, but have to officially appear.

Earlier this week, Marvel head Kevin Feige discussed the studio’s plans for the X-Men. Here is everything we learned about the upcoming movie.
Jake Schreier Will Direct
After numerous reports that Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier was in line to helm Marvel’s X-Men movie, Kevin Feige finally confirmed it. Additionally, he revealed that production on the film is now underway with work beginning on the script.

“Yeah, it’s official. Jake Schreier is doing X-Men for us. Very lucky, and we’re very, very lucky to have him, and very excited to have him. And so we’re beginning. It’s all starting now. Script’s underway.”
The X-Men Will Be Young
While many of the original Fox X-Men are set to reprise their roles in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, the future of the X-Men in the MCU will be younger.

According to Feige, the plan is to recast the iconic Marvel team following the events of Secret Wars. Discussing the vision for the new cast, he noted that, “X-Men, as it was in the comics, will be a very youth-oriented, focused, and cast movie.”
At the roundtable conversation, Feige elaborated on his vision for the X-Men franchise.

“I don’t want to talk too much about ‘X-Men,’ because that’s still a ways away,” Feige said. “But you look at what the X-Men comics have always been, and they have been young, and they have been a place to tell stories about young people who feel different, and who feel other, and who feel like they don’t belong.”
Some Stars May Stick Around
While Marvel will “reset” the MCU after Secret Wars and introduce a new version of the X-Men, a couple of iconic mutants may stick around. When asked about the potential for Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman to return as Deadpool and Wolverine, Feige gave a vague, but encouraging answer.
