It’s official: Tom Rhys Harries has landed the role of Clayface in the upcoming film.
Despite not being included on the rumored short list that was recently reported on, it was confirmed on Tuesday that Harries has secured the role. The news was first reported by Deadline and then confirmed by DC Studios co-chair James Gunn.
Harries is best known for starring in Suspicion on Apple TV Plus and Uberto Pasolini’s The Return.
Mike Flanagan recently confirmed that the screenplay is going through some revisions, but he hopes that some of his version will still show up on screen.
Rumors of this project date back to 2023, but it seems things are finally coming together. Flannagan has written the first version of the script for the project. Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris will be producers via their 6th & Idaho Productions company.
Also, relating to the report from 2023, sources have repeatedly made it clear that the pitch is unrelated to The Batman: Part II. With Reeves serving as a producer, that will raise questions, but he was also involved with the Batman: Caped Crusader series, which was unrelated to his films.
Flanagan, who directed the Stephen King adaptation Doctor Sleep, has not been quiet about his passion for Clayface. He stated in 2021 that he was “really keen to do a standalone Clayface movie as a horror/thriller/tragedy.”
While Clayface has appeared in animated form and video games many times over, he has never jumped to a live-action theatrical film. We’ll have to wait and see if anything comes of these talks, but the character may finally be heading toward his time in the spotlight.
The untitled Clayface movie is scheduled to hit theaters on Sept. 11, 2026.
