‘Thunderbolts*’ Is Tracking Towards a Strong Opening Weekend

After Captain America: Brave New World‘s disappointing box office performance earlier this year, all eyes are on Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* as the film heads into theaters.

Like Brave New World, Thunderbolts* has been advertised as a grounded thriller featuring a team of anti-heroes and former villains whose stories have largely been overlooked.

Under the watcful eye of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis Dreyfus), Thunderbolts* will bring together former villains and anti-heroes including Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell).

‘Thunderbolts*’ Box Office Forecast

With just one day to go until Thunderbolts* hits theaters, the film is tracking towards a $75 million opening weekend in domestic theaters.

Internationally, the film is tracking towards a $100 million debut, which would give Thunderbolts* a $175 million global cume.

While $75 million would be a lower opening weekend than Brave New World, it would be a strong start for a stand-alone MCU film.

Reviews For ‘Thunderbolts*’ Have Been Great

Additionally, unlike Brave New World, the reviews for Thunderbolts* have been glowing.

Based on how things stand, Thunderbolts* could have the kind of extended box office run that has eluded Marvel in recent years (Deadpool & Wolverine not withstanding).

With a $175 million budget, the film still has a ways to go before it turns a profit. Still, so far, things look good for Thunderbolts*. Hopefully, the movie can stick the landing.

Thunderbolts* will hit theaters on May 2.
