In 2023, Priyanka Chopra finally responded to the inquiries regarding her comments on being overlooked in Bollywood, a matter she publicly recognized years after it occurred.
While promoting her web series Citadel in Mumbai, Priyanka Chopra discussed why she took her time to address a phase that compelled her to seek opportunities beyond India. Priyanka Chopra’s comments came shortly after her candid discussion on Dax Shepherd’s Armchair Expert podcast, where she spoke about being pushed “into a corner” and feeling “tired of the politics” in the film industry. Without naming anyone, she had mentioned that she had “beef with some people,” which contributed to her decision to move to the West. The revelations sparked wide debate. While many praised her resilience, others wondered why she stayed silent for so many years.
In response to this, Priyanka explained that time, healing, and emotional clarity allowed her to express her experience clearly, “I think, first of all, when I was on the podcast I was asked about the journey of my life. And, I spoke about when I was young when I was 10, 15, 22, 30, 40 or whatever… So I was talking about the truth of my journey and now because I was confident enough to talk about that phase of my life.”
She further elaborated that the distance from her past and the industry helped her express herself without bitterness. “I think now where I am… I was okay enough to kind of articulate what I felt. I had a very tumultuous relationship with… what occurred, I forgave, moved on a long time ago and then I made my peace with it. I think that’s why it was easy for me to talk about it in an open manner in a safe space.”
In her professional life, Priyanka Chopra is preparing for her return to Bollywood as she features in SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi. The movie is promoted as a sci-fi action adventure featuring Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran as well. Its release is anticipated in 2027.
