As we sit here in March 2025, the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is clouded. With James Gunn now heading DC Studios and Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista both adamant that they are done with MCU, it remains to be seen how, or if, Marvel moves the Guardians franchise forward.
The prevailing notion has long been that Peter Quill’s story will continue in an adaptation of The Legendary Star-Lord arc. Meanwhile, it is possible that Marvel will give the new-look Guardians of the Galaxy, which consists of Rocket, Groot, Kraglin, Cosmo, Adam, Phyla, and Blurp, another galactic adventure.

However, before any questions regarding the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy are answered, the Marvel multiverse is set to come together for the events of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
What We Know About ‘Doomsday’
Based on early concept art for the upcoming Avengers films, it looks like we will see Peter Quill again. The status of his former Guardians teammates, however, is less clear.

However, if one Guardian gets his way, he will also suit up to face Doctor Doom.
Will Puulter Would Love to Return as Adam Warlock
In a recent interview with ComicBook, Will Poulter, who portrays Adam Warclock in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, was adamant that he would jump at the chance to return to the MCU.
“Oh, dude, I’d love it. I had so much fun playing my character, and so, yeah, if they come calling, I’m definitely picking up,” he said.
Warlock was initially teased at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2., before making his proper debut in Vol. 3.

Interestingly, Marvel chose not to use the character during the Infinity Saga even though Warlock is the keeper of the Soul Stone in the comics. With much of Warlock’s source material still unexplored, it would be natural for the character to return.
For now, however, fans will have to wait.

Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
