Matt Reeves reportedly exits as director of The Batman: Part II

A new report suggests that Matt Reeves may be stepping down as the director of The Batman: Part II, but will remain on as scriptwriter.

We can’t stress how much caution you should use with this report. If it had come from somewhere other than Production Weekly – a trade publication that offers status updates on films – we more than likely wouldn’t even discuss it.

With that caveat in mind, the latest issue of the trade publication states that Matt Reeves is still onboard with The Batman: Part II as a scriptwriter, but he’s no longer listed as the director. It also states that filming is now set to commence in March 2026 as opposed to by the end of this year as many reports have suggested.

No official comment has been made by Warner Bros. Pictures or DC Studios at this time.

As we said, take a grain of salt with this report for the time being. It could have been a clerical error by Production Weekly, or perhaps Reeves truly has stepped down as director. We will update this story should any new information be released.

The Batman hit theaters on March 4, 2022 and went on to earn $765.95 million dollars globally. The franchise received an interim expansion with the release of The Penguin – an original series with Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oz Cobb from the first film – on Max.

The untitled The Batman sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on Oct. 1, 2027.
