After the disappointing box office run of Captain America: Brave New World, Marvel Studios is set to return to theaters this weekend with Thunderbolts*.
The latest chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) will see the formation of a new super team. Unlike the clean-cut Avengers, however, the Thunderbolts are comprised of anti-heroes and former villains.

Under the watcful eye of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis Dreyfus), the MCU’s Thunderbolts will bring together Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell).
A Strong Start For ‘Thunderbolts*’
Unlike Brave New World, Thunderbolts* has received glowing early reviews. The question now for the film is how it will fare in theaters.

So far things look good for Thunderbolts*. Today, the film delivered $11.5 million in previews, and the film is currently tracking towards an opening weekend of $75 million.
While that number would come in below Brave New World’s opening cume, it is important to note that Thunderbolts is largely a standalone film bereft of any of Marvel’s major stars.

Additionally, with the perponderance of positive buzz that the film is generating, we may see Thunderbolts* exceed projections.
Looking Ahead
The hope for Marvel is that the film’s strong critical and audience reviews will propel Thunderbolts* to an extended box office run.
While there is still a long way to go before we can definitively declare Thunderbolts* another Marvel hit, so far, things look good.
