The zombie apocalypse has arrived, and Marvel’s Greatest Heroes are leading the charge…for the enemy.

We’ll discuss your favorite company’s 28 Years Later era in MarvelBlog News.

“Who will save us…from our heroes?”

Let’s get right to it. We have a new trailer to discuss, and it’s a blast:

You (hopefully) just watched the trailer for Marvel Zombies, which arrives on Disney+ in less than three weeks.

On September 24th, a select few Avengers and other Marvel characters try to do the impossible.

They find themselves tasked with protecting humanity’s fate, which isn’t the strange part.

Ordinarily, we’d describe that as par for the course for Marvel heroes, but this one’s a little different.

Marvel Zombies represents a different kind of Marvel civil war. This time, it’s the living versus the dead.

Look, I’ll admit my bias in advance. I’m in the tank for Marvel Zombies.

You could take a quick glance at my bookshelf and tell that’s true, as I own multiple hardcovers.

Marvel released these stories as graphic novels but also gave them a fancier treatment.

I loved them so much that I splurged with the better copies and never once regretted it.

Why? Marvel Zombies is awesome. It tweaks the conventional format of a decades-old comic book.

In any Marvel story, you rarely feel any true sense of danger. Kevin Feige and his team ain’t killing Spider-Man.

Okay, they may kill him or, at the very least, shove him into a ridiculous body-switching story.

Even when there’s briefly a Superior Spider-Man, we all know the deal. Peter Parker’s coming back.

I mean, Miles Morales is coming back, too, and Gwen Stacy has suddenly become immortal as well.

Comic book stories follow some hard rules. The above-the-title characters get Plot Armor.

That is NOT the case in Marvel Zombies, as this trailer shows. Did you notice Steve Rogers dying?

In this trailer, Captain America is far from the only one who dies. In fact, the joke here is that everyone does.

Yes, in Marvel Zombies, the villains, aka the shuffling undead, often win. Why?

As AEW wrestler Lance Archer likes to say, “Everybody dies.” So, there’s an endless onslaught of villains.

Meanwhile, whenever a hero falls, they immediately become a part of the other team.

In sports terms, it’s like being traded in the middle of the game.

One second, Captain America is on Team Alive. Then, it’s like Jerry Jones is his team owner.

Just like Micah Parsons, Captain America suddenly defects to the competition.

This storytelling mechanic turns the Marvel Zombies into something delightful: They’re wholly unpredictable.

You never know which characters will triumph or die screaming in a given scene/episode.

So, when the credits show characters like Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man, Valkyrie, and Hawkeye, anything can happen.

Specifically, some of them can and will die and become villains themselves.

Then, we have the fact that many Marvel characters are extraordinarily OP.

For instance, we get a shot of Namor splintering someone, followed by Thanos wielding the Infinity Gauntlet.

People are gonna die. And by people, I mean many of your favorite Marvel characters.

However, the OP thing goes both ways, as what sure looks like a combo Blade/Moon Knight kills Zombie Ghost.

Even though the New Avenger phases in and out repeatedly, Blade Knight slices and dices her.

Well, I presume it’s a “her,” but that’s not guaranteed. Marvel Zombies will use alternate dimension characters, too.

That’s how we get Moon Knights who happen to be Blades on the side (side-Blades?) and so forth.

Thus, we’ll learn an entirely new batch of Marvel characters along the way.

Some elements appear to remain, though. Shang-Chi and Katy sure seem to be chasing a bus again.

This time, they’re in pursuit of zombies, though. It’s always gonna be zombies on this show.

We’re only getting four episodes of Marvel Zombies, but this one looks to be a joyous Marvel series.

Best of all, we’re less than three weeks away from the entire series debuting on Disney+.

So, if you’re anything like me, you will have binged all of it before the month ends.

We’re in the middle of a historically slow Marvel news cycle. Like, it’s the slowest since MarvelBlog began.

Even during the pandemic, we had all sorts of updates along the lines of, “Movie X is delayed.”

Also, several productions occurred during the pandemic, a decision Marvel wound up mostly regretting.

So, there was more news then than we’ve had since the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Right now, most of the stories out there involve spoilers about Avengers: Doomsday, and I’m guessing you don’t want them.

Therefore, the big news this week is that revered actor Ed Harris has revealed his role.

In Wonder Man, he’ll portray Hollywood agent Neal Saroyan.

If you know anything about the character, you know why that’s important.

Meanwhile, Ruaridh Mollica appears to have said too much about his Marvel role.

While details have been kept a secret, he took a picture with Joe Locke and hinted they’re brothers now.

So, that would make Mollica’s Vision Quest character Tommy Shepherd, aka Speed.

Long story short, Mollica’s playing the other twin son of Vision and Scarlet Witch.
