Eyes of WakandaEyes of Wakanda

Eyes of Wakanda may not get a second season, but you’ll never guess the reason why.

We’ll discuss this and the confessions of Wanda Maximoff in MarvelBlog News.

Season on the Brink

Let’s just get right to it. Future episodes of Eyes of Wakanda are in peril.

Ordinarily, that statement would reflect business as usual in the streaming industry.

On countless occasions, a streaming service has renewed a show, only to cancel it later.

This behavior happened repeatedly during the pandemic, but it has remained a standard business practice.

I’m still salty about The Peripheral, an Amazon Prime series whose first season I loved.

Amazon renewed the show early on but later flip-flopped, deciding it was too expensive.

This sort of thing happens more than you may think, but it’s a rarity for Marvel and Star Wars programs.

That’s what makes the Eyes of Wakanda story so interesting, albeit with a huge asterisk.

The person amplifying this story is a shameless muckraker who lives for clickbait content.

As such, the entire conversation could very well be overblown, and you should keep that in mind.

What’s the story? In case you didn’t know, Marvel outsourced the production of Eyes of Wakanda.

Rather than using conventional Disney animators, Disney hired Axis Studios, a Scottish firm.

As a Halo fanatic, I’ve known Axis for a long time, as it handled many of the video game’s vibrant cut scenes.

They were a good studio, partially because leadership carefully selected projects.

That practical behavior proved to be their financial undoing, as they experienced cash flow issues.

In the entertainment industry, that’s a well-established problem, especially for animation houses.

When you prioritize a handful of projects, each one needs to be a financial blockbuster.

Otherwise, you won’t be able to pay your people, which is precisely what happened with Axis.

Love, Death and Axis

I don’t want to diminish what Axis accomplished, as it’s a shockingly influential studio.

Even if you don’t know them, you’ve probably played Halo or Destiny or League of Legends.

Each of those games, along with several others, featured visuals crafted by the artisans at Axis.

Most recently, Axis worked on the popular Netflix series, Love, Death + Robots.

I can tell the entire story of the fall of Axis with just a couple of quick comments.

The first is that three years passed between seasons three and four of Love, Death + Robots.

The second is that development started on Eyes of Wakanda in 2022. We didn’t get the episodes until 2025.

So, ostensibly, 2025 should have been a terrific year for Axis if not for the fact that the studio was already bankrupt.

Because its content suffered pandemic- and then Hollywood strike-related delays, it ran out of money.

From Marvel’s perspective, if it wants to make more episodes of Eyes of Wakanda, it must start from scratch.

Axis Studios, which recently claimed the number one series on Disney+, has closed.

At this point, despite the critical reception and popularity of Eyes of Wakanda, a second season is an uphill battle.

Disney and Marvel must find an entirely new animation house to craft another season.

Yes, Disney could feasibly do that in-house, but given the production struggles of the first season, it may not happen.

So, we must wait and see how much of this story proves accurate versus overblown.

Wanda’s Vision

Elizabeth Olsen recently appeared at the Hamptons International Film Festival.

During her conversation, Olsen faced the inevitable question that all Marvel performers do.

Fans wanted to know whether the actress would return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

That’s like asking someone for all their passwords and power of attorney. Nobody’s gonna answer honestly.

Still, Olsen provided some insights and was shockingly honest in her evaluation.

“It is something that I love, and it’s something I always want to return to.”

She added, “There are still character through lines that have happened in the comics that I’d love to do that I think fans also want to.”

Then, Olsen said something a bit controversial, noting that: “these movies aren’t for critics, these movies are for fans.”

Marvel actors didn’t used to say that because there was no need. Every title earned glowing reviews.

MCU performers must say it now because the reviews haven’t been quite so glowing lately.

I include Olsen’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in that group.

To a larger point, we don’t know what’s happening with Olsen’s character, Wanda Maximoff.

We’ve learned more about her children than her over the past few years.

Presumably, Vision Quest will change that, which brings up an important point.

Rumors are flying that Vision Quest may be more than a one-and-done series.

Marvel may envision this show as a multi-season project, which impacts Olsen.

Since the character of The Vision has married Wanda, at least on television, they’re inexorably linked.

Marvel may be keeping Olsen from Avengers: Doomsday to tell that story in Vision Quest instead.

Then again, she may be the first face we see in Doomsday. It’s Marvel, so anything is possible.

The biggest other story this week involves Wonder Man, the upcoming Disney+ series.

We’ve finally got a trailer after all this time! Take a look at the clip here:

And here’s the longer one that came out a couple of days later:

Yeah, that looks fun. Sign me up for a full season of whatever that is.
