For years, Marvel fans have waited with bated breath to see if the long-promised Nova series would finally materialize.
The project was first teased in 2018 when Kevin Feige said the character had “immediate potential.”

It wasn’t until 2022, however, that Nova began to gain momentum.
‘Nova’ Was Seemingly Being Developed as a Series
Back in 2022, reports surfaced that Marvel was developing a Nova series with Sabir Pirzada attached to write it.

The following years, however, brought major changes to Marvel Television. After the disastrous reception to Secret Invasion, the studio overhauled its approach to producing streaming series.
As part of that shift, Marvel decided its television division would focus on stories that could be serialized and enjoyed by viewers without requiring extensive knowledge of the latest MCU films.

The change in strategy led many fans to assume that Nova had been scrapped.
That, however, wasn’t the case.
Recent Developments
In 2024, Kevin Feige revealed that Nova was still in development and confirmed that the series would star Richard Rider, the most iconic version of the character.

Then, in December 2024, Deadline reported that Ed Bernero had joined the project as writer and showrunner.
Just as it seemed Nova would finally come to fruition, fans received disappointing news last year when Deadline reported that Marvel was “pausing” Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror, Inc. until after Avengers: Secret Wars.
The Project Is Moving Forward as a Movie
According to a new report from Deadline, Marvel is currently developing Nova as a feature film, with Michael Waldron set to write and potentially direct.

Waldron, of course, is one of the MCU’s key creative architects, having previously written Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and serving as a writer on Avengers: Doomsday.
At this time, the Nova project is reportedly still in the early stages of development.

Nevertheless, fans can take solace in the fact that the fan-favorite hero may finally take flight after all.
