Welcome back to Upcoming Comics! There’s been a lot of talk behind the scenes lately here at Batman News. I won’t give too much away until we get everything sorted, but in the coming week we should be rolling out a project that’s been on the backburner for a long time, perhaps too long. It should hopefully be an avenue for unique and interesting articles from the writers you know here at Batman News, and some you might remember…
Upcoming Comics
Absolute Batman #8

Batman is in the fight for his life against this icy new threat. But in the end, what terrifying truth will be unearthed about Ark M and…Joker?
- Written By: Scott Snyder
- Art By: Marcos Martin
Thoughts: Last issue was a big change of pace from the first arc, but if anything it showed that this series can have more than one note and still work.
Batman News Critic: Jackson
Batman: Dark Patterns #6

CASE 02: “The Voice of the Tower”—Part III The fires of unrest burn bright and terribly! With Scarface still evading capture and the violent riot in the tower getting even worse with no end in sight, Batman must turn toward a most unlikely ally in his time of need. Will the Dark Knight heal this terrible wound, or will Gotham descend further into chaos?
- Written By: Dan Watters
- Art By: Hayden Sherman
Thoughts: Looking at that cover, all I can think of is the big Woody’s Roundup head with the knockable teeth from Toy Story 2.
Batman News Critic: Jack
Batman and Robin #21

Robin has been kidnapped—stolen away by Memento in a killing blow to Batman’s psyche. Now, with his body broken and his mind fractured, the Dark Knight must fight his way through a gang war, Memento’s cultists, and his own decaying mental state to save his son before it is too late!
- Written By: Phillip Kennedy Johnson
- Art By: Javi Fernandez
Thoughts: I was a bit surprised when it turned out this would be a 12-issue (at least) arc, but I guess PKJ feels there’s a lot of story to tell.
Batman News Critic: Chris
DC vs Vampires: World War V #9

With Darkseid’s hold on the planet growing tighter, the fragile alliance between heroes and vampires may not be strong enough to take him down. But as luck would have it, someone knows how to save humanity. Unfortunately, it’s the last person you want. Guided by Doctor Fate and the Phantom Stranger…it’s John Constantine to the rescue.
- Written By: Matthew Rosenberg, Shane McCarthy
- Art By: Otto Schmidt, Fabio Veras, French Carlomagno
Thoughts: Hey now, Constantine might be a drunk and a jerk, but there are definitely worse people you could want.
Batman News Critic: Akash
Beyond the Bat
Welcome to Beyond the Bat, where we take a quick look at the rest of DC’s comics coming out this week.
Graphic Novel Watch
Sometimes you need more than floppies. Sometimes you want something that can sit nicely on your shelf that proudly displays your favorite stories. That’s when you turn to graphic novels. Let’s see what bat collections are coming out this week:
Ratings
Most Excited: Batman: Dark Patterns #6– Watters continues to impress with his anthology series. I’m looking forward to this arc’s finale and the Red Hood Gang one he has set up for next month.
Least Excited: DC vs Vampires: World War V #9– If there’s an appeal, it’s mainly just seeing as many characters thrown in as possible.
Wild Card: Absolute Batman #8– If there’s one thing Snyder knows how to do, it’s horror.
Well that’s it for this week! Let us know in the comments what comics you’re looking forward to.
