Upcoming Comics June 4, 2025

Welcome back to Upcoming Comics! This week the baby Robins who had been nesting on my back deck flew away. I’d been watching their progress tirelessly ever since the mama bird started building the nest a few weeks ago. Now that they’re gone I’ll need to stop spamming my friends with update pictures and find something else to keep me occupied.

Oh right, I’m supposed to talk about comics. Uhhhh Robin’s a character in Batman, right? I’m counting it. Anyways, let’s look at what’s coming out.

Upcoming Comics

Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong 2 #1

In the aftermath of last year’s Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, Task Force X launches a plan to develop hybrid Titans that Amanda Waller can control to guard against future titan attacks on our Earth. To stop Task Force X, the Justice League travels to Legendary Earth and must face the dangers of the Hollow Earth, Kong, and Godzilla, King of the Monsters!

  • Written By: Brian Buccellato
  • Art By: Christian Duce

Thoughts: I wonder if this will be as popular as the first one without a monster movie to tie into.

Batgirl #8

Sandra and Carolyn Wu-San have taken to the streets of Detroit and become the champions of Chinatown—but what happens when they meet the deadly fists of Richard Dragon and the Bronze Tiger? Meanwhile, who is the dark shadow that stalks the young Lady Shiva by day and haunts her dreams by night, and how do its revelations affect Cassandra Cain in the present? Get ready for the deadliest, most action-packed issue of Batgirl yet!

  • Written By: Tate Brombal
  • Art By: Isaac Goodhart

Thoughts: All of the names in the martial arts side of DC sound like they came out of a 70s kung-fu movie.

Batman News Critic: Chris

Poison Ivy #34

The GCPD descends upon Marshview with its sights set on everything Pamela Isley has built over the last year. With her freedom shattered, her trust betrayed, and her home under assault… just how far is Poison Ivy willing to go in order to protect what’s hers?

  • Written By: G. Willow Wilson
  • Art By: Marcio Takara

Thoughts: “Just how far”? Didn’t this series begin with her trying to wipe out humanity with a fungal toxin?

Batman News Critic: Jeremy

Birds of Prey #22

The Birds investigate the disappearance of one of their own, hoping it will lead them to both their missing comrade and the truth about the mysterious villains attacking from the shadows. Meanwhile, the Shadow Army makes another big move, with Oracle on the explosive receiving end.

  • Written By: Kelly Thompson
  • Art By: Sami Basri

Thoughts: It’s interesting to me the inconsistency with which DC refers to Barbara as “Oracle” vs “Batgirl”. It really seems to depend on the writer.

Batman News Critic: Jeremy

Teen Titans Go! #4

When Blackfire’s latest doomsday machine backfires and blows up her entire invasion fleet before the Titans can leap into action, our heroes are left with a free afternoon. Good thing there’s a giant sack of (Justice League) fan mail to answer! Everything’s fine until they open a “special delivery” from one of the League’s greatest foes: an Amazo robot that’ll crush the Titans with its own powers! And until the postal inspector shows up, don’t open other people’s mail, kids.

  • Written By: Sholly Fisch
  • Art By: Agnes Garbowska

Thoughts: Opening someone else’s mail is a federal crime. They all need to go to jail.

Batman News Critic: Chip

Beyond the Bat

Welcome to Beyond the Bat, where we take a quick look at the rest of DC’s comics coming out this week.

Graphic Novel Watch

Sometimes you need more than floppies. Sometimes you want something that can sit nicely on your shelf that proudly displays your favorite stories. That’s when you turn to graphic novels. Let’s see what bat collections are coming out this week:

Ratings

Most Excited: Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong 2 #1– Who’s ready for giant, high-energy nonsense action?

Least Excited: Teen Titans Go! #4– This seems to have quickly settled into a fairly typical pattern.

Wild Card: Batgirl #8– Shiva hasn’t had a ton of exposure recently, so I’m willing to see what Brombal has planned for her.

Well that’s it for this week! Let us know in the comments what comics you’re looking forward to.
