Upcoming Comics June 18, 2025

Welcome back to Upcoming Comics! Some of you may be disappointed to learn that I infiltrated the DC Comics offices to delay the next few issues of Batman. I had a lot of stuff going on those weekends and didn’t feel like writing a review for H2SH, so I made it that Batman #161 wouldn’t come out until July. Once I got home, I figured in for a penny in for a pound, and later returned to push back Batman #162 and Batman #163 even further so they wouldn’t come out until September and October. Now some sources might tell you that these delays are due to Jim Lee notoriously taking a long time to draw comics, but that’s not true. It’s because I was lazy and decided to hack the DC Comics mainframe.

Upcoming Comics

Detective Comics #1098

Batman and the Penguin have found themselves unlikely allies on a mission that has taken them out of Gotham and into an entirely unexpected new location! But even with their powers combined, will they be able to unravel the sinister schemes of a (literally) bloodthirsty immortality cult?

  • Written By: Tom Taylor
  • Art By: Lee Garbett

Thoughts: Bullock and Cobblepot here look like the same guy in different outfits. I’m sure Harvey wouldn’t like hearing that, but it’s true.

Batman News Critic: Aaron

Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #40

A menace is loose in Metropolis, but Superman and Batman can’t do anything about it until Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne find a way to escape…a talk show? Will it be up to their friends—Perry White, Lois Lane, Commissioner Gordon, and Alfred Pennyworth—to step in and help save the day? Also featuring an all-new cameo variant cover appearance by late night icon Stephen Colbert!

  • Written By: Mark Waid
  • Art By: Adrian Gutierrez

Thoughts: We Are Yesterday was only really ever nominally in World’s Finest, but now it’ll be in JLU exclusively until the end.

Batman News Critic: Jackson

Batman & Robin: Year One #8

The General’s search for Batman and Robin’s true identities comes to Wayne Manor’s doorsteps! Can the dynamic duo find a way to repel the General’s forces and still keep their identities secret?!

  • Written By: Mark Waid, Chris Samnee
  • Art By: Chris Samnee

Thoughts: This cover sort of makes it look like they’re fighting Sinestro in a fedora.

Batman News Critic: Chip

Nightwing #127

When the former Titans Tower is taken over by something monstrous, Nightwing is forced to partner with his enemies at Spheric Solutions to save those trapped inside. But what is this terrible thing that has come to Blüdhaven…and why does it seem to be after Nightwing himself?

  • Written By: Dan Watters
  • Art By: Dexter Soy

Thoughts: I was super into the last arc when it started, but then the second issue felt like a real disappointment. Seems this week is a return to a more typical sort of Nightwing story.

Batman News Critic: Aaron

Catwoman #77

The explosive final act of Catwoman’s international adventure begins here! With her list of suspects narrowed down, Selina circles in on the mystery person with their finger on the trigger. But when an ally is unexpectedly kidnapped, Catwoman finds herself on her hind legs as her cat-and-mouse game with the Belovs approaches its fiery conclusion.

  • Written By: Torunn Gronbekk
  • Art By: Danilo Beyruth, Fabiana Mascolo

Thoughts: This run might be kind of boring, but Selina’s outfits are on point.

Batman News Critic: Akash

Titans #24

It’s a Terra-ble day for the Titans, who are attacked by a Terra-fying villain intent on Terra-rizing our heroes. Yes, we’re unearthing a classic Titans villain for this landmark issue, one who is not afraid to fight dirty. Of course, we can’t tell you who the villain is, but—just maybe—if you are a genius-level comic book reader, there is a small, almost infinitesimal, chance that you just might be able to figure it out.

  • Written By: John Layman
  • Art By: Pete Woods

Thoughts: This could either be really interesting or a Terra-ble idea.

Batman News Critic: None

Beyond the Bat

Welcome to Beyond the Bat, where we take a quick look at the rest of DC’s comics coming out this week.

Graphic Novel Watch

Sometimes you need more than floppies. Sometimes you want something that can sit nicely on your shelf that proudly displays your favorite stories. That’s when you turn to graphic novels. Let’s see what bat collections are coming out this week:

Ratings

Most Excited: Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #40– These goofy side stories are honestly my favorite part of World’s Finest.

Least Excited: Catwoman #77– I’m ready for Selina to come back to Gotham

Wild Card: Titans #24– Like I said, there’s a lot to revisit and reexamine with Terra’s actions during Judas Contract, but on the other hand bringing her back could end up feeling really cheap.

Well that’s it for this week! Let us know in the comments what comics you’re looking forward to.
