MarvelBlog News for March 15th, 2026

This week in MarvelBlog News, we discuss an unlikely superhero team-up.

You WILL want to read about this one, even though I’m skeptical it happens.

Last month, I mentioned one of the funniest yet most annoying stories in recent memory.

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSMU) is quite possibly the worst franchise this side of Transformers.

Thus far, the franchise consists of Spider-Man (duh!), Venom (not bad), and…well, it gets grim.

Are you a fan of Madame Web, Morbius, or Kraven the Hunter? Anyone who says yes is lying.

Sony unleashed these movies on an unwilling public, and we’ll never forgive the studio for its crimes.

No, it’s not Morbin’ time. It will NEVER be Morbin’ time. And the person who put that in a script is a monster.

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe crystallized one fact for Marvel fans.

We know more about Marvel than Sony does, and we’d make better movies, too.

Like, did the people involved with these projects even go to film school? Or regular school?

The combined Rotten Tomatoes score of those three films is 40 percent.

Even adding them together doesn’t come close to earning a Fresh rating!

So, why in the world would Sony inflict more of these films upon an unsuspecting public?

Well, if MyTimetoShineHello, a noted Marvel rumormonger, is correct, Sony has a plan.

Actually, I’d describe it more as a moonshot, but I wouldn’t blame the studio for trying.

Sony is reportedly kicking around the idea of a superhero team-up for an upcoming release.

This film would pair Spider-Man, the only popular SSMU character with…Wolverine.

If that concept sounds familiar, it should. Deadpool & Wolverine came out less than two years ago.

Apparently, Sony wants to scratch out Deadpool’s name and replace it with Peter Parker’s.

Why This Movie?

I’m not dismissing this possibility as ludicrous, as I know how studio bosses think.

They could care less whether an idea makes any sense from a storytelling perspective.

All they want to know is how much money the film could make, and we already have that answer.

Deadpool & Wolverine grossed $1.34 billion, making it a very solid blockbuster.

Replacing Deadpool with Spider-Man would actually add to its box office appeal.

While Wolverine is a proven draw, his standalone films definitely don’t approach Spider-Man’s.

Obviously, we have the catch that Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are real-life friends.

Meanwhile, Jackman is old enough to be Tom Holland’s father, although that could help the story.

Even though you’ve known Holland for a decade, he’s still in his 20s. He’ll turn 30 in June.

While Spider-Man: No Way Home reminded us that others have played Peter Parker, Holland is the one true Spider-Man.

So, the combination of his Peter Parker and Jackman’s Wolverine is tantalizing.

Jackman is synonymous with modern comic book movies, having portrayed Wolverine since 2000.

That’s more than a quarter-century in this role, and we’ve got more coming soon.

Jackman is expected to appear in either Avengers: Doomsday, Avengers: Secret Wars, or both.

Sony correctly believes that audiences would enjoy a pairing of Spider-Man and Wolverine.

In fact, we’ve even got source material now, as an ongoing team-up series debuted last May.

This rumor feels like Sony planting its flag that it’d be interested if Disney wanted to do that.

Obviously, Sony owns the Spider-Man license and would want to release the film.

Meanwhile, Disney likes money and earns a percentage of all Spider-Man movie box office.

To a larger point, this is a Sony’s Spider-Man Universe movie people would actually want to watch.

But the drawback is that Tom Holland’s dance card is already pretty full.

Also, oversaturation is a potential problem as well. So, I view this as a fan service rumor.

Could it happen? Sure. Will it happen? I’d be quite surprised. We have Deadpool & Wolverine at home.

We’ve got two big stories about to break on the Marvel front.

First, I may have watched the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer by the time you read this.

Amazon MGM Studios is releasing Project: Hail Mary this week, with sneak previews on Monday.

Meanwhile, Sony Pictures will distribute the film internationally, and you can connect the dots.

The studios have apparently agreed to attach Brand New Day’s trailer to Project: Hail Mary.

You should know that the film doesn’t officially debut in theaters until Friday, though.

So, we may need to wait until the week of March 23rd for Brand New Day’s trailer to debut on YouTube.

Then again, Sony may jump the gun by releasing it sometime this week. It could go either way.

What I’m hearing is March 18th, which is Wednesday. However, that would defeat the purpose of the movie tie-in.

Then again, Sony isn’t attached to the domestic success of Project: Hail Mary.

Another Marvel story of note is that reviews are about to drop for Daredevil: Born Again season two.

The embargo ends on Tuesday afternoon. It’d be a shock if it’s not glowingly reviewed.

As I’ve said several times, season one was brilliant and set the table for an even better follow-up.

So, this is an exciting time for Marvel fans, especially if some of these wild rumors prove correct.
