In this week’s MarvelBlog News, we’re gonna talk about Kevin Feige’s one job.

What’s Happening?

Marvel just revealed the production dates for its new movie, and you should know which one it is.

Even though Avengers: Doomsday won’t come out for another ten months, Marvel isn’t waiting around.

Filming will begin for Avengers: Secret Wars this summer, six months before the release of Doomsday.

British production tracker FilmBase.UK has published this information, likely to Marvel’s annoyance.

Understandably, the British film industry monitors Pinewood Studios closely.

That’s where all Marvel movies film, and Pinewood Studios needs extras for many of its shots.

So, Marvel has no choice but to relay the information about its production schedules.

Otherwise, it’d struggle to populate scenes from the movies, which is partially why Hollywood wants AI to be a thing.

Well, the owners of movie studios do, as it’ll save costs and provide more layers of control.

More to the point, Marvel could prevent outsiders from knowing its production schedule.

Since that day remains at least a few years away, tidbits like this one often give away the plans.

This one isn’t exactly earth-shattering as a reveal, but it provides insight into Marvel’s timeline.

For Secret Wars to hold its current release date of December 17th, 2027, it must film this summer.

However, a February 6th update suggests that the project may now be on temporary hiatus, which is to say briefly delayed.

People are confused about the production update due to the reversal of dates in Europe.

6/2/26 means June 2nd in the United States, but it’s February 6th in England.

Based on their site’s dating conventions, a February 6th update suggests a hiatus.

What I suspect happened is simpler. They said too much too soon, and Marvel requested a change.

In reality, if Secret Wars is NOT filming this summer, a release date delay is inevitable.

Wait, Is the Film Delayed?

Anything is possible at this point, but to explore the possibilities, we must understand what’s happening.

During the 2020s, the MCU has undeniably struggled for a myriad of reasons.

The most obvious one was former Disney CEO Bob Chapek’s edict for more Disney+ content.

Marvel ramped up production on several shows at exactly the worst possible time.

Chapek called for a huge increase in MCU content in…2020. And we all know how well that worked.

Let’s just say that Chapek got fired, and we all pretend as if Secret Invasion never happened.

A key part of Marvel’s struggles was that Kevin Feige was off his game, which is understandable.

Historically, Feige had overseen one or two theatrical releases each year, never more than three.

Suddenly, he was managing far too many projects, and we all saw how that went.

Lately, Feige has indicated that he’s solely focused on Avengers: Doomsday.

That creates a bit of intrigue with Avengers: Secret Wars, especially this summer.

Should the movie shoot in June…or at least point before December, really, Feige’s duties get split.

Now, he’s working on two extremely important films and simultaneously at that.

If either film disappoints, the “Marvel has lost its touch” social media campaign starts anew.

And that’s before we factor in the other part of this conversation.

Marvel’s Tough Decision

Is Avengers: Secret Wars one movie or two? For a while, the hot rumor was two films.

Now, I’ve heard some pushback against this notion, which makes sense to me.

After all, Secret Wars is ostensibly the second half of Doomsday.

We know from tons of experiences that middle films in movie trilogies underperform.

So, even if Marvel were splitting Secret Wars, it should do everything possible to dismiss such reports.

However, the idea of three connected Avengers movies makes a ton of financial sense.

I have no idea whether there’s enough for that, but we all know what’s happening with the MCU.

Few films are excelling at the box office, but we all believe Avengers: Doomsday will.

Similarly, Secret Wars should do equally well, maybe even better if it’s a satisfying climactic story.

From Feige’s perspective, a two-part Secret Wars gives him three different jobs, though.

Let’s be honest that this strategy hasn’t worked out well lately for him and should be avoided.

Thus, Marvel faces a tough decision here. Feige’s in a precarious position, and I don’t know the right answer.

On top of that, Dana Walden is now in charge of all Disney storytelling, which means Feige has a new boss.

This whole thing has gotten messy, and I’m not quite sure how it resolves itself.

This was a relatively quiet week for Marvel news, which finally allowed me to catch up on the Feige rumors.

At this point, I’m not 100 percent sure he’s with Disney in two years, which would be a shocking turn.

Other than that, we’re hearing some stories about X-Men’s pre-production advancing quickly.

I suspect that Avengers: Doomsday propels that project forward, which brings me to 2028.

Presuming that Avengers: Secret Wars keeps its 2027 date, I expect X-Men to anchor 2028.

That would create a timeline of about a year from right now for Marvel to announce the cast.

At the latest, we should get this news by June of 2027, but I’m expecting it before then.

The only other real story this week is that Scarlett Johansson squashed any hope of an MCU return.

Obviously, she could be lying to disguise a shocking comeback, but I’m dubious.

She sounds pretty done with Marvel in the short term, which is another mistake we can blame on Chapek.
