TV actors Kunal Verma and Puja Banerjee have hit headlines for all the wrong reasons. The couple has been accused of kidnapping and extortion by producer Shyam Sunder Dey.
TV couple Kunal Verma and Puja Banerjee are once again in news. After they claimed that theyhave become victims to financial scam, they have hit the headlines as a producer’s wife accused them of kidnapping and extortion. As per the reports, Bengali filmmaker Shyam Sunder Dey’ wife has filed a complaint against Kunal Verma and Puja Banerjee accusing them of abduction and extortion of her husband in Goa. Reportedly, the two actors have been charged.
As per the reports, the Goa Police has registered an FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Puja Banerjee, Kunal Verma, and their associate Piyush Kothari. The charges are listed under sections 126(2), 137(2), 140(2), 308(2), 115(2), 351(3), 61(2), and 3(5). These sections cover serious offenses like abduction, unlawful confinement, extortion, criminal threats, and more.
Malabika Dey, Shyam Sunder Dey’s wife, recounted their entire ordeal through a post on social media. In a lengthy note, she wrote that her husband was kidnapped, threatened and physically assaulted by Puja Banerjee, Kunal Verma and Piyush Kothari. They demanded Rs 64 lakh and threatened him of false drug case. She added that the producer paid Rs 23 lakh and carried out bank transactions. As proof, she attached all the receipts and screenshots of the transaction made.
Later, Shyam Sunder Dey spoke to Times of India and shared that he was kept captive from June 1 to June 4 in Goa’s Amber Villa. He mentioned that he was a on a trip to Goa with his family. While his family returned home post 5 days, he stayed back for work. He recalled how his car was intercepted by another car and he was taken captive. He said, “It came out of nowhere and forced me to a halt. Two men got down, approached me, and insisted I step out. At first, I refused. But then I noticed Puja Banerjee, who has been like a sister to me, was present.”
Shyam Sunder Dey mentioned that he tried to reason with Kunal and Puja that they were like family to him and whatever they are doing is wrong but was of no help. He added that when they pressed him to sign property papers, he realised that it had gone ‘too far’. He then somehow filmed a video from the bathroom and sent the location to his wife who immediately informed the authorities.
