Disney and Hasbro Reach New Agreement on ‘Star Wars’ and Marvel Licensing

One month after Disney and Mattel renewed their global licensing agreement, the Mouse House and another toy giant have inked a new deal.

Today, Disney and Hasbro extended their longtime collaboration, allowing the latter brand to continue creating games and toys based on Star Wars and Marvel.

Here is what we know.

Hasbro’s Plans For ‘Star Wars’

The new agreement between Disney and Hasbro will affect the condition of numerous popular Star Wars lines, including The Black Series and The Vintage Collection.

Additionally, Hasbro will continue to create its popular Lightsaber toys and other themed products featuring Star Wars characters.

“We look forward to continuing to collaborate with Hasbro to evolve our expansive portfolio of Star Wars and Marvel toys that bring these iconic adventures into daily life,” said Paul Gitter, Executive Vice President of Global Brand Commercialization at Disney Consumer Products.

“From must-have collectibles to Lightsaber toys, we aim to push the boundaries of creativity to deliver innovative products and engaging play experiences that bring our fans closer to their favorite stories and characters.”

What About Marvel?

Turning to Marvel, the new deal ensures that the Marvel Legends action figures will continue to be produced. Additionally, Hasbro plans to create new products inspired by Spidey and his Amazing Friends and the upcoming Iron Man and his Awesome Friends.

Outside of toys and games, the new licensing agreement will see Marvel characters integrated into the popular trading card game, Magic: The Gathering.

“It’s an honor to be able to deepen our relationship with Disney Consumer Products to create even more magical play experiences for consumers across the globe,” said Tim Kilpin, Hasbro’s President, Toys, Board Games, Licensing and Entertainment.
