8 iconic dialogues that still make every 90s kid emotional

“Pyaar dosti hai.”

This one dialogue has the power to summarize the entire plot of the film. This one simple, yet powerful line completely shaped the narrative of what it means to love and to be loved in the minds of millions of people. It is not bound by time and tells a tale that has been told a million times before and will be told a million times after: love is friendship.

Tussi jaa rahe ho? Tusi naa jao.

If you haven’t said this line instead of simply wishing someone a goodbye, then are you even a Kuch Kuch Hota Hai fan? Said by Parzaan Dastur, the Sardar boy who does not say anything else in the entire film, this line is iconic. Narrated when Anajli was about to leave the summer camp, this dialogue has the potential of making almost everyone emotional.

“Tum khoobsurat ho kyuki tum special ho”

Kajol’s character Anjali truly stole everyone’s heart in the film. When her innocent want to feel pretty makes her shift into a mini-skirt and makeup, she gets teased and made fun of. And Rahul, being a good friend, reassures her by saying this.

“Ek mard ka sar sirf teen aurton ke saamne jhukta hai, maa ke samne, durga maa ke saamne, aur…”

This dialogue is definitely one of the smoothest ways to express your feelings for someone. This was said by Rahul when he meets Tina at the temple. He didn’t need to take any name; just bowing his head was enough.

“Jab mujhe mere dost ki zaroorat thi, tum toh thi hi nahi.”

Probably one of the most heartbreaking dialogues of the entire film, this was said to Anjali by Rahul when they reunite years after not seeing each other. It was said with no resentment or anger in heart, which makes it even more heartbreaking. Upon hearing it, everyone secretly hoped that they would never have to face a situation like this.

Rahul is a cheater. He is a cheater, cheater!

One of the funniest dialogues from the entire movie, this definitely lives in everyone’s head rent-free. This scene and this particular line, followed by a random person shouting “Rahul aur Anjali ki phir se ladayi ho gayi!!!,” depict the closeness and playfulness in their bond. When this dialogue gets recreated later in the movie, it adds a whole ounce of emotional depth.

“London mein rehne se, wahan padne likhne se, main apne sanskaar nahi bhuli aur ye tum mat bhulna.”

This dialogue is the perfect summarization of Tina’s character. She is modern, educated, and has lived in London. However, she is still perfectly in touch with her roots, her culture, and her traditions.

“Hum ek baar jeete hai, ek baar marte hai, shaadi bhi ek baar hoti hai…aur pyar…ek baar hi hota hai.”

While multiple people and the film itself do not fully agree with the idea of this dialogue, it still connects with fans across generations. Perhaps because this was said by Rahul when Anjali asked him if he got married again after Tina passed away. No matter how true or untrue it is, it will always remain one of the most iconic dialogues from the film.
