James Gunn Shares New Info on Man of Tomorrow| Batman News

James Gunn has shared some insights into the upcoming DCU film Man of Tomorrow and how it’s as much about Lex Luthor as it is about Superman.

Appearing on The Howard Stern Show on Wednesday, Gunn commented on Man of Tomorrow, saying, “It’s a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat.”

Looking at the pantheon of DC villains, there are a lot of options out there, but one that can bring Luthor and Superman together on the same side? We’ll have to wait and see what that is.

It should be noted that Gunn never referred to this movie as a “sequel” to Superman, and has made it clear in several interviews that he has been working on a ‘follow-up’ to that film.

Appearing on Deadline’s Crew Call podcast in August, Gunn said that the story takes place “within the group of characters we’ve already met and Superman is an important element.”

“I’m done with the treatment,” he added. “That treatment is done. I’m now into the screenwriting phase. I’m really happy with it, and we’re already prepping and figuring out where we’re shooting everything. That will not be too long.”

This mirrors comments he made to The Hollywood Reporter at the Peacemaker season 2 premiere. Gunn was asked about the next film to feature Superman, Gunn said, “I’ve already finished the treatment for the next story in what I’ll call the ‘Superman Saga.’ The treatment is done, which means a very, very worked-out treatment. I’m working on that and hopefully going into production on that not too far away from today.”

Man of Tomorrow will hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
