James Gunn has shared a bit more about his next film in the DCU, and how it isn’t a Superman sequel, but he’s “an important element.”
Appearing on Deadline’s Crew Call podcast, Gunn spoke about the Superman follow-up. While he didn’t go into great detail, he said that the story takes place “within the group of characters we’ve already met and Superman is an important element.”
“I’m done with the treatment,” he added. “That treatment is done. I’m now into the screenwriting phase. I’m really happy with it, and we’re already prepping and figuring out where we’re shooting everything. That will not be too long.”
This mirrors comments he made to The Hollywood Reporter at the Peacemaker season 2 premiere. Gunn was asked about the next film to feature Superman, Gunn said, “I’ve already finished the treatment for the next story in what I’ll call the ‘Superman Saga.’ The treatment is done, which means a very, very worked-out treatment. I’m working on that and hopefully going into production on that not too far away from today.”
Peacemaker season 2 will premiere on Aug. 21. Superman is currently available to rent or buy digitally as well as playing in theaters.
