Border 2 teaser gets U/A certificate: Sunny Deol-Diljit Dosanjh's film to release on THIS date

Sunny Deol is all set to reprise his iconic role as Major Kuldip Singh in Border 2, alongside Diljit Dosanjh, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty. The film is a sequel to JP Dutta’s 1997 blockbuster Border and is scheduled to hit theatres in January 2026. According to recent reports, the much-awaited teaser of Border 2 will be unveiled on Independence Day, August 15, 2025. While an official announcement is yet to be made, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has already cleared it. The teaser, titled Date Announcement Teaser No. 1 – Border 2, runs for about 70 seconds and has been granted a U/A 16+ certificate.

When is Border 2 releasing?

According to Bollywood Hungama, the teaser will give audiences a glimpse of the patriotic drama and its India vs. Pakistan storyline. It will also reaffirm the film’s release date — January 23, 2026, just ahead of Republic Day. Anurag Singh, renowned for his powerful narratives and opulent cinematic aesthetic, is directing the movie. With an emotional plot, a strong cast, and a blend of high-octane action and patriotism, Border 2 seeks to appeal to a new generation of moviegoers while re-creating the magic of the first film.

Diljit Dosanjh Controversy

Earlier this year, rumours circulated that Diljit Dosanjh had been dropped from Border 2 after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) objected to his casting. The controversy arose because Diljit had cast Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his Punjabi film Sardaar Ji 3. This sparked speculation that Punjabi actor Ammy Virk might replace him. However, Ammy’s team denied the rumours, and Diljit continues to be a part of the project.
