Superman has finally made its way to the big screen, and now comes the time to get down to the nitty-gritty of how much it has made.
As the second weekend of Superman draws to a close, the box office estimates have rolled in. Domestically, the film took in $57.3 million over the three-day weekend for a new domestic total of $235 million. In foreign markets, it generated $45.2 million, bringing the international total to $171.8 million. The global total sits at $406.8 million.
For comparison, the second Blue Beetle weekend came in with $12.15 million, The Flash second weekend took in $15.14 million over three days. The comparisons are inevitable, but the 12-year gap between Man of Steel and Superman makes things a bit more complicated. The Man of Steel second weekend total was $41.28 million, or approx. $56.97 million adjusted for inflation. Blue Beetle went on to a domestic total of $72.48 million, The Flash took in $108.13 million, while Man of Steel took in $291.04 million/$401.62 million.
Using the same comps as before, Blue Beetle took in $56.28 million from foreign markets for a global final total of $128.77 million. The Flash took in $160.03 from overseas markets over the course of its run for a worldwide total of $268.16 million. Man of Steel took in $376.95 million/$520.17 million for a global total of $667.99 million/$921.79 million.
Next week the film will face competition from The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
