Back in February, it was announced that Matt Fraction would be taking over the Batman title in September with a new #1 issue. The current arc of “H2SH” was scheduled to run from Batman #158-163, ending in August before the series would begin its renumbering. However, since then, the comic has been met with multiple delays. Batman #161 was pushed from June to July, and then Batman #162 and #163 were pushed back even further to September and October. This led to speculation over what it would mean for Fraction’s originally scheduled start date.
DC has now confirmed that Batman #1 is still slated for release in September, despite delays to the prior issues. Unless plans change once more, it seems that both runs will be releasing concurrently until Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee wrap up in October. It’s not clear whether any of the events of H2SH will impact Fraction’s story, but hopefully there won’t be too much confusion as the title overlaps with itself.
As a promotion for the launch of Batman #1, DC will be offering a “blind bag” special edition containing a random foil variant cover from one of a lineup of artists. These include David Aja, J. Scott Campbell, Gabriele Dell’Otto, Jorge Jiménez, Andy Kubert, Stanley “Artgerm” Lau, Jim Lee, Frank Quitely, Marc Silvestri and Julian Totino Tedesco.
