Superman runtime confirmed by James Gunn

One of the biggest questions on fan’s minds has finally been answered: What is the Superman runtime?

James Gunn finally gave a firm answer on the Treads social network on Wednesday night when a fan asked him if the time of 2 hours and 9 minutes was correct. Gunn replied, “Yes. Inclusive of credits/post credits the runtime is 2 hours and 9 minutes.”

Gunn was later asked, “Any truth that WB forced you to make it shorter?” to which he replied, “Zero truth to that. And they couldn’t even if that’s something that they wanted to. It’s a DC Studios film.”

For comparison, here are the lengths of the previous Superman films:

  • Superman (1978) – 143 minutes
  • Superman II – 127 minutes (theatrical cut), 116 minutes (Donner Cut)
  • Superman III – 125 minutes
  • Superman IV: The Quest for Peace – 90 minutes
  • Superman Returns – 204 minutes
  • Man of Steel – 143 minutes
  • Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – 152 minutes (theatrical cut)
  • Justice League – 120 minutes (theatrical cut)
  • Superman – 129 minutes

Superman will serve as the first live-action entry expressly made for the new DCU.  In addition to seeing Superman, the film will include the first appearances of Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Perry White, Cat Grant, Steve Lombard, Lex Luthor, Eve Teschmacher, Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, Metamorpho, Guy Gardner, the Engineer, and Krypto the Superdog. Some rumors have indicated we will also see the first appearance of Supergirl, who is set to be played by Milly Alcock. She will then appear in her own film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

The cast of Superman is set to include David Corenswet as Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. They will all be joined by Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, María Gabriela de Faría as the Engineer , Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Christopher MacDonald as Ron Troupe, and Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard.
