HBO is positioning The Penguin to take home a lot of Emmy Awards, while also possibly telling us something about its future.
According to Deadline, HBO will submit The Penguin in multiple categories for Emmy submissions. Colin Farrell will be vying for a Lead Actor nomination, while Cristin Milioti will be submitted for Lead Actress. HBO also plans to put forward Rhenzy Feliz as Supporting Actor and Deirdre O’ Connell under the Supporting Actress category.
Lauren LeFranc, who served as showrunner will be competing for a writing nomination. Craig Zobel, Helen Shaver, Kevin Bray and, Jennifer Getzinger will all be put forward for directing.
Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program, Contemporary Hairstyling, Contemporary Makeup, Prosthetic Makeup, Music Composition, Music Supervision, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Special Visual Effects, Stunt Coordination, Stunt Performance, and Title Design will also be submitted.
The overall series will be seeking a nomination for Limited Series.
This is the nomination that is leading people to believe that any hope for a season 2 has now been dashed. There is technically a way around this in that so long as no second season has been confirmed, it can compete as a limited series. It is not unusual for season 2 discussions to suddenly pop up following the conclusion of Emmy season.
For now, it is a limited series, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will remain so.
The Emmy nominations will be announced on July 14, 2025, and the ceremony will be held on Sept. 14, 2025.
