UPDATE: Deadline is now reporting that the film has only paused pre-production, and it will move filming to next Summer. Original story follows.
The Sgt. Rock movie is reportedly no longer moving forward at DC Studios as scheduling conflicts became an issue.
According to The Wrap, Luca Guadagnino’s Sgt. Rock will no longer be reporting for duty. Colin Farrell was in talks to star in the film following Daniel Craig dropping out of the project.
The film was due to begin filming this Summer due to the extensive exterior filming required, but too many scheduling issues started to appear. The budget was reported to be a very reasonable $70 million or less, and is not considered to have played a role in the film’s cancelation.
Farrell’s consideration for the role was always a question mark due to his packed schedule. He is still listed for this year alone to film Season 2 of Apple TV Plus’ Sugar, Edward Berger’s movie The Ballad of a Small Player, and The Batman: Part II is supposed to begin filming before the end of the year.
Sgt. Rock was created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert and made his debut in 1959’s Our Army at War. He grew in popularity in the 1970s and early 1980s, but has been a bit of a bit character since that time. Guadagnino is reportedly very excited to get this project off the ground.
DC Studios is not offering any comment at this time.
